Congregation of Nordic Activists fighting for Digital Freedom

Gothenburg, 2008-08-26

The organizing team of the Free Society Conference and Nordic Summit (FSCONS) announced today that they have confirmed speakers from all five Nordic countries - Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

"We are very happy to have representatives and participants from all five Nordic countries", says organizer Henrik Sandklef, from Gothenburg himself. "It shows that the people here care for change and innovation."

There are presenters from more than ten countries lined up for their event at the IT University in Gothenburg. On October 24th to 26th, artists, hackers, and writers will give an overview to the current state of freedom around the globe. Special emphasis is given to the digital world - its content, its creation, and the technology behind it.

"Broadening FSCONS' scope to include Free Culture, Free Software as well as Free Content was the best step we could take", declares Stian Rødven Eide, one of the FSCONS organizers, proudly. "The response from within the Free Software camp as well as the Free Culture and Free Content activists was amazing - and we are proud to be a part of it."

The list of talks is both heavily technical - eg "Coreboot" and "Ubuntu Deployment for Your Enterprise" - and with highly charged topics like John Buckman's "Squeezing the Evil out of the Music Industry" as well as a look into the future with "Digital Fabrication and Social Change", given by Smári McCarthy of the Icelandic Fab Lab.

There will also be booths and talks by projects such as Open Street Map, Debian, CC Mixter, and, of course, Wikipedia.

FSCONS is co-organized by Creative Commons Sweden, Free Software Foundation Europe and Wikimedia Sverige.
